Although tearaway backing might be the most popular backing
choice, cutaway backing comes in a close second. Cutaway backing is
most often used when working with a light or stretchy fabric. This
type of backing is sturdier and provides more stability for lighter
weight fabrics. Once the design is done, cutaway backing, as the
name implies, must be cut-away with scissors.
